WI FACETS Trains Parent Leaders
2/20 & 21/03
New WI FACETS' Parent Leaders completed a 2-day Orientation Training in February 2003, including the expectations of Parent Leaders and training on special education rules and regulations, IEP, discipline issues, effective communication and presentation skills.
WI FACETS' federal Parent Training & Information Center 5-year grant includes a goal to train and support Parent Leaders for use by our 6 Center Coordinators in a variety of ways, depending on the needs of the Center and the expertise and availability of each Parent Leader. Benefits of being a Parent Leader include: great training, resources, and leadership experiences that will directly benefit a parent's own child or situation and to share with other parents. They may be eligible to receive reimbursement for individual support cases or for childcare, travel expenses, and conference registration fees associated with additional knowledge acquisition to enhance the mentoring efforts associated with being a Parent Leader.
WI FACETS' Parent Leaders include: Central Center: *Beth Alexander, Louise Doescher, Sara Hebbe, Pam Ironside, Jane Pawelski, *Jeannie Peterson, *Melissa Schonasky; Fox Valley Center: *Julie Carter, Julia Cartwright, *Angie Czaja, *Mary Flatka, *Leigh Sanderson; Greater Milwaukee: Laurie Casey, *Carolyn Cutler-Tzeel; North: *Sally Carlson, Scott Gray, *Kim Ness; Racine/Kenosha: Linda Rodriguez, *Richard Hernandez, Carolyn Stephens; South: Lois Corwith, Kirsten Engel, Rose Helms, Sandra McAnanay, Michelle Sturz, Bonnie Lubet, Dawn Wians. One day of our WI FACETS' Parent Leader Orientation Training is usually a joint training and networking opportunity with the WI Parent/Educator Initiative (WSPEI) Parent Liaisons. WSPEI Parent Liaisons provide support, information and training for parents of children with disabilities in their CESA or school district. WSPEI and WI FACETS have worked closely to coordinate mutual activities and statewide efforts for parent support. Our collaborative efforts have resulted in some quality joint products and activities that have benefited many parents and professionals.
