Traumatic experiences can be dehumanizing, shocking or terrifying, and result in feelings of powerlessness, loss of safety, fear, shame, guilt, rage, isolation, disconnection, hopelessness, and a constant state of alert. Trauma can result from experiences related to bullying; violence; disaster; physical, sexual and institutional abuse; neglect; or betrayal from a trusted person or institution.
